Activiteiten

In het kader van haar doelstelling (het bij elkaar brengen van wetenschap en praktijk op het gebied van toezicht en compliance) organiseert het Erasmus Instituut Toezicht & Compliance naast onderwijsactiviteiten ook met regelmaat diverse andere activiteiten. Jaarlijks vinden een symposium, seminars, onderzoeksbijeenkomsten en andere activiteiten plaats. De meeste activiteiten zijn zowel voor eigen participanten als andere geïnteresseerden toegankelijk. 

Op de homepage en op de pagina 'Nieuws' worden de activiteiten, georganiseerd door het EITC, getoond. Tevens zullen andere activiteiten die weliswaar door derden worden georganiseerd, maar die interessant zijn voor wetenschappers en een ieder die zich bezighoudt met toezicht en compliance, worden vermeld.

Cooperative Regulation: Movement, Misgivings and Methods for Assessment
For nearly three decades, traditional approaches to business regulation have been under attack from corporate officials, from conservative political leaders and from management and business school academics. In the United States and nations around the globe, they have been largely supplanted by programs of cooperative or responsive regulation, which are touted as more effective and efficient in promoting corporate compliance with law. Neal Shover will present his paper that briefly documents and interprets this movement and reviews the state of empirical evidence on these claims. Using deterrence theory, the paper notes persistent, troubling and still unanswered questions about the supposed payoffs of the new-style regulatory regimes and concludes with a discussion of ethnographic research methods and their suitability for examining the extent to which and how programs of responsive regulation 1) are implemented, and 2) effect compliance.

Fabricated Managerial Success through Coerced Collective Deviance
Niki den Nieuwenboer will present an ethnographic study that examines a case of coerced collective deviance. It shows how managers of a telesales unit engaged in two sets of practices in order to get their Salespeople to commit deviance. One set comprised of practices that reframed deviance in such a way that it appeared legitimate business behavior. A second set of practices was used to coerce Desk Salespeople into adopting those behaviors as many remained resistant to them. This second set consists of three distinct types of practices which all infringed on Desk Salespeople’s selves. The two sets of practices built on each other to create a sustained system of deviance. This made the unit appear to be highly successful, something the unit’s General Manager used to realize her own ambitious career goals.
