"Jaarverslag vaak vorm van Kremlinwatch"

Het jaarverslag van de raad van commissarissen over het toezicht werkt niet meer, betogen Mijntje Lückerath en Margot Scheltema in de NRC. Margot Scheltema is recent als research fellow aangesloten bij het Erasmus Instituut Toezicht & Compliance. Bij het EITC zal zij zich in haar onderzoek met name concentreren op het verslag van de Raad van Commissarissen en het jaarverslag.

GCL- Conference 'Regulating the Public Interest'

The Groningen Centre for Law and Governance (GCL), in cooperation with the Department of Legal Theory and the Department of Administrative Law & Public Administration of the University of Groningen, is organising a one-day international conference in Groningen. This academic conference on 17 November 2009 marks the official launch of the GCL.

The topic of the conference is ‘ Regulating the Public Interest’ . At this conference two new books will be presented: one on regulation and self-regulation and the other on safeguarding the public interest, especially in the field of social security. Both books deal with the same topic: the rise of the regulatory state and the changing role of public and private regulation.

This conference will consider issues like these: What is regulation? What are public interests that call for government responsibility? What are the mechanisms to safeguard these interests and what is the role of public and private regulation in this respect? The answers to these questions demand a multidisciplinary approach as these questions have legal, philosophical, political, economic and sociological aspects. Therefore the conference will be of interest for scholars working in all these fields.

More information on the GCL and on the conference can be found on this website: www.rug.nl/gcl

You may sign up for the conference on 17 November 2009 by using the website of GCL or by sending an email to GCL@rug.nl. For more information m.l.m.hertogh@rug.nl (self-regulation) or g.j.vonk@rug.nl (public interest in social security)
